Activist art: It's funny that way...

Wed Jul 8, 2009, 12:29 PM
I have been away from deviant art for a while, and recently got back on (mostly out of curiosity). I began going through old deviations and licensing them under creative commons. Reading through some of the content, I realized how absurdly "emo" i used to be. Immature, dumb, and overly emotional. I can't believe how anyone would have been able to put up with some one like me for more than a few seconds, let alone live with me or attempt to raise me (sorry mom, you did a good job for what you were working with...haha!).
Isn't it funny how we can look back at the mindset we were in only a year prior and laugh at ourselves or be disgusted by our thoughts, feelings, opinions, and overall lack of wisdom? I am absolutely amazed at myself.
I suppose I am so shocked due to the lack of actual retrospective perception (is that even a proper phrase? Oxymoron, or just redundant?) on my part. I was quite the selfish and thoughtless brat everyone told me I was. Haha! Amazing!
I truly hope my art (all encompassing terminology...art as in: music, literature, visual art, dance, speaking, etc..) continues to develop as I have.
I want for people to be able to read my printed words and critique them and discuss those words in an intellectual fashion. I want my paintings to speak volumes on politics without saying anything at all. Moreover, i want the art i create to act as a learning device for others. A platform from which people can take apart and rebuild and develop from.
To me, art is a most important tool in which we can express and invoke revolution. Not just of the mind, but of the physical state. A simple symbol can be used to justify an entire philosophy.
That same symbol is flown as flags, worn on the skin as a tattoo, a statement of being.
Activist art.

hey. I am trying to upload an avatar, but every image I resize to fit the 50x50 pixels restriction is not the proper size. I know the images are at MOST 50x50 (I'm resizing them myself) but they still aren't working. Any suggestions?

Yeah, me too! I'm so sad...I missed almost all of last season, and there is supposed to be two or three more episodes with the current doctor, but they're getting a new one. Do you watch torchwood as well?
